Discover what the Academic Services Center has to offer!
Each residential community has an Academic Service Center (ASC), which provides a variety of academic services and programs for residents. Residents can take advantage of five nights of tutoring in various subjects each week. ASCs also promote the University's academic resources while providing some direct academic resources of their own.
Each Center is staffed by a Coordinator and four or more consultants. The Coordinator, a student, supervises the other staff, implements programming, and seeks ways to enhance the academic resources based on the nature of the hall. The consultants specialize in one or more popular academic areas, especially focused on the academic needs of the individual residence hall. Hours are widely advertised.
This service is provided to assist students with their success in the classroom. Providing the ASC Center is one way Housing & Residential Life directly supports the academic mission of the university. Many of the services are provided in the evenings when other campus services are not available.
Everyone! If you are currently a University of Minnesota student you are eligible for this academic service. The services are only offered in the residential communities but students who live off campus are also eligible and encouraged to take advantage.
This service is absolutely free to any University of Minnesota student. The Academic Service Center is one of the ways that Housing & Residential Life feels that it can have a direct impact on the academic success of its students.
There are over 30 subjects covered in the ASC system. Each residence hall has staff who specialize in IT subjects (Math, Calculus, Chemistry, etc.).Feel free to visit any or all locations to find the subjects or staff that fit you best!
Two locations (Frontier and Sanford) run satellite centers of the Center For Writing in conjunction with the ASC program on Mondays through Wednesdays. These tutors operate on the same walk-in basis as the standard ASC tutors.
If you manage to stump our staff or your subject is not covered, our staff have the knowledge and resources to send you to someone who can help you!
Many of the services are provided in the evenings when other campus services are not available. We are available 5 nights a week, Sunday through Thursday, between the hours of 6 and 11 PM. This means that sometime within this 5-hour period there will be at least one staff member present for two hours. Our program is available in 10 different university associated residences halls and apartment complexes on campus including:
Bailey Hall
Centennial Hall
Comstock Hall
Frontier Hall
Mark G. Yudof Hall
Middlebrook Hall
Pioneer Hall
Sanford Hall
Territorial Hall
